2019 Chicago Blues Camp Dates

At Chicago Blues Camp, we take advantage of every Blues musician, club, and festival this city has to offer to provide the ultimate authentic Blues experience – Chicago style. There will be no shortage of learning and jamming throughout your five days of pure electric, urban Chicago Blues.
Beginning Sunday noon, you will meet your fellow students and get an orientation to the camp facilities and week’s schedule followed by your first class.
Taught by Chicago Blues professionals, our course offerings in guitar, bass and “harp” will teach you the classic Blues styles of Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Reed and Little Walter as well as contemporary developments by today’s artists. Whether the blues is in your blood or you’re looking to join the scene for the first time, you’ll fit right in. All skill sets are welcome.
In between classes, you will attend workshops on topics like singing the blues, lectures about the history and culture of the blues, and enjoy great meals created just for the campers.
The week-long camp session includes:
- 22 hours of group instruction on your instrument
- 12+ hours of jam sessions (ensemble)
- Presentations on blues history, culture and development
- Workshops in specific topics such as blues singing, slide guitar, etc.
- Outings to famous Chicago Blues Clubs
- Learning classic Chicago Blues Songs
- Lodging for 6 days and 5 nights
- All meals
The fee for the 6 days is $2,495 and is all inclusive. The ability to improvise and adapt to playing with other musicians is vital to learning the Chicago Blues. There are protocols and dynamics in jamming that every Blues performer should learn. Chicago Blues Camp instructors (who are all working Chicago Blues musicians) will teach you everything you need to know to jump into a jam with confidence.
Then we’ll go out on the town together to see the Blues played live. Studded with world-famous Blues clubs, the Chicago Blues scene has it all. Each evening, we’ll go to one of these clubs to see for ourselves what Chicago Blues is all about. On Thursday night, students will play where the legends once stood, showing off what they’ve learned at a live show that will be professionally recorded and videotaped.
